Privacy policy

CartoonTV has no accounts, no ads and no database of users. This page explains what the site does use, and which other services are involved when you watch or chat.

What's stored on your device

The site saves a few things in your browser's local storage so they're remembered next time. They stay on your device and are never sent to us:

  • Your settings: last channel, volume, captions, picture settings, clock format and the last sidebar tab.
  • Your analytics choice, if you were asked.
  • Your chat identity, if you've used chat: a random name, colour and emoji, a cryptographic key used to sign your messages, and when you first joined. Plus whether you agreed to the chat rules and who you've muted.

Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes all of it, including your chat name.

Video: YouTube

Every episode plays in YouTube's embedded player, straight from the rights holder's official channel. YouTube may set cookies and collect data about playback under Google's privacy policy. CartoonTV doesn't see your YouTube account.

Analytics: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity

We use Google Analytics 4 to learn which channels and shows people watch, and which features they use. It records things like page visits, channel changes, the show playing, and that a chat message was sent. It never records what the message said. Ad features and ad personalisation are turned off.

We also use Microsoft Clarity to see how people use the pages: clicks, scrolling, and anonymised recordings of visits, so we can find what's confusing or broken. The chat area is always masked in recordings, so nobody's messages are captured. Clarity sets its own cookies and is covered by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Both tools note which site or link brought you here, such as a search engine or a ?ref= tag on a shared link.

  • In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, analytics stays off until you accept the banner. Clarity doesn't load at all until then.
  • Everywhere else it's on by default. You can block it with any content blocker and the site works exactly the same.

Chat

Chat is off until you agree to the chat rules and open the Chat tab. When it's on:

  • It's peer-to-peer. Your browser connects directly to the other people in the room using WebRTC. This lets them see your IP address, which can reveal your rough location and internet provider.
  • Public relays help you find each other. To set up connections, your browser posts encrypted connection details to public Nostr relays run by third parties. They can see your IP address and the name of the room, but not your messages.
  • Messages aren't stored. They go only to the people in the room at that moment. We don't run a chat server and can't read, keep or recover messages. People in the room can still copy or screenshot them.
  • The chat code loads from the jsDelivr CDN, which sees your IP address like any website you load files from.

"Leave chat" disconnects you straight away.

Other services

  • Hosting: the site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as your IP address to deliver pages and stop attacks.
  • Fonts: loaded from Google Fonts.
  • Thumbnails: loaded from YouTube's image servers.

Children

CartoonTV shows cartoons that children love, so we keep things simple: there are no accounts, no ads and nothing to sign up for. Chat is for people 13 and older and switches off during the preschool blocks. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has shared personal information in chat, it isn't stored by us. Muting and leaving chat removes it from that screen.

Your choices

  • Don't join chat, or press "Leave chat".
  • Decline analytics if you're asked, or use a content blocker. Either one blocks Google Analytics and Clarity.
  • Clear this site's data in your browser settings to remove everything stored on your device.
